Earlier today, the Princess of Wales shared a heartfelt video message, disclosing her recent cancer diagnosis.
The announcement was made public at 2pm EDT, coinciding with 6pm in London. Recorded by BBC Studios in Windsor, the timing was chosen to coincide with the start of the Easter break for the Wales children, allowing the family to be together during this challenging time. “This news was unexpected, and William and I are coping as best we can, keeping this private for our children’s sake,” she added. More details can be found in this Telegraph article.
“I am deeply thankful for the overwhelming support and understanding during my recovery from surgery,” she expressed.
“The past few months have been extremely difficult for our family, but the exceptional medical team has provided outstanding care, for which I am immensely thankful.
She mentioned that it took some time for her and Prince William to carefully explain the situation to George, Charlotte, and Louis, ensuring they understand and feel reassured about her recovery.
The Princess also requested, “Please respect our need for privacy as I undergo treatment.” Below, a family photo from Christmas Day.
She further explained that the initial surgery in January was believed to be for a benign condition, but subsequent tests revealed cancer. She did not disclose the type of cancer but confirmed she is in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy. She also shared insights into her discussions with the Wales children.
“As I have told them; I am recovering well and focusing on my healing—mentally, physically, and spiritually. Having William by my side has been incredibly comforting, as has the outpouring of love and support from so many,” she stated.
